Sri Sri Drives Debate in Norwegian Parliament Towards Peace Building

Dear Editor,

Bengaluru, 28 October 2016:

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Founder, The Art of Living successfully concluded his European tour starting from the terror-affected France, Poland, Sweden and ending it in Norway as he reached out to thousands of Europeans at various fora such as prestigious universities and parliaments with his message of peace and harmony.

In Norway,Gurudev addressed the Norwegian Parliament and met with the President of the Parliament, Olemic Thommessen.

The event witnessed a heated debate when President of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, Mr. Masood Khan, started speaking. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Member of Parliament Mrs. Sylvi Graham managed to drive the debate towards resolution that there should be a united fight against terrorism and poverty and the attention of the society should be towards similarities rather than the differences to bring peace and harmony in diversity.

Earlier on Monday evening Gurudev addressed the civil society and later was joined for a luncheon by the State Secretary of the Prime Minister. On Tuesday Gurudev was received by the Norwegian Olympic Committee and its head Mr. Inge Anderson as well as the record Winning Olympic Medalist Kjetil Andre Aamodt.

It was decided that The Art of Living and the Olympic Sports Committee Norway will work together to conduct more confidence building programs for athletes.

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to address both Houses of French Parliament

Bengaluru, October 17: Indian spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, whose messages for world peace are increasingly finding favor with nations in conflict, will address members of the French Parliament in Paris, a city ravaged last year in one of the world's dastardly terror attacks.

Gurudev will address the members of National Assembly and Senate of France on 18th and 19th October respectively at the behest of Paul Giacobbi, President of India France Parliamentary group and François Marc, the President of India France Group of Senators. The addresses will focus on conflict resolution and inter-confessional and inter cultural dialogue. Gurudev will address questions from French MPs after the sessions. This is the first time that an Indian leader will be addressing both the houses of the French Parliament.

Gurudev will also deliver a keynote address on 'Ethics for a globalized and sustainable economy' for experts and country representatives of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), one of the world's most powerful political and economic platforms.

The October 18 parliamentary speech by Gurudev is considered extremely significant by Paris which, like other Western nations, is trying hard to curb Islamic State driven terror attacks across the globe. Paris suffered last year when the IS terrorists left 130 people dead and over thousands injured in a ghastly attack in the French Capital November last.

In May this year, British Prime Minister David Cameron had invited Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to address the House of Commons in London. In the past Gurudev has addressed MPs from across Europe and Africa.

"The ground work that has been done by Gurudev (Sri Sri Ravi Shankar) in France provides concrete solutions to the current French problems like social integration. The very fact that both the assemblies of Parliament are keen to hear Sri Sri speak on the current problems of France is a strong indication that the parliamentarians are looking for solutions in the direction of peace and harmony. To receive a spiritual leader without a political mandate is a big step in recognizing the potential of the soft power of India," remarked Serge Michenaud, Executive Director of Art of Living France.

The Art of Living has been active for decades in France, its youth leadership programs helping troubled youth from Paris suburbs to reshape their lives and careers. Yoga and meditation-based programs conducted by the Art of Living have had tremendous positive effect on radicalized youth in French prisons, and appreciated deeply by the authorities.

After Paris, Gurudev is slated to visit Poland, Sweden and Norway, addressing public programs in these countries. He is scheduled to deliver on October 23, 2016, the keynote address at the Peace Conference in the Norwegian Parliament hosted by Member of National Parliament Ms. Sylv Graham.

Art of Living is organizing a Sahaj Samadhi meditation workshop this week in three locations in Chennai. 'Sahaj' is a Sanskrit word that means natural or effortless. 'Samadhi' is a deep, blissful, meditative state. 'Sahaj Samadhi Meditation' is a natural, effortless system of meditation. The highlight of these sessions is the direct webcast of Smt. Bhanumathi Narsimhan (sister of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar) leading the meditations from Bangalore ashram and connecting to 1000s of people worldwide, simultaneously.

The participant is taught to use a simple sound mentally which allows the mind to settle down and go within. When the mind and nervous system are allowed to repose a few moments in the profound silence, the blocks that clog the system and our progress gradually dissolve. When the mind is calm, there is greater clarity in the field of expression. Our powers of observation, perception and expression improve. As a result we are able to communicate effectively and clearly.

Dates: Oct 21, 22 & 23, 2016

Time: Multiple Sessions at Adayar, Sholinganallur and Perambur

Open to anyone, above 16 years. For more details, please call 9790741665; 9940018751; 9841513105
