The Art of Living, founded by the humanitarian and spiritual leader, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, brought together multiple stakeholders including  ex-militants, families of victims of militancy, youth leaders, women,  entrepreneurs, parents bodies, select Kashmiri NGOs, Sufi leaders, academicians, media, persons in art and culture, representatives of the Sikh community and dissenters including those who resorted to stone pelting to deliberate and have a dialogue on the situation in Kashmir as part of the 'Kashmir Back to Paradise' Conference. "Kashmir ka hal kashmiryion se hi a sakta hai. bahar se nahi ho sakta (The solution to the Kashmir problem can only come from the Kashmiris)," Gurudev said while addressing an august gathering of Kashimir intellectuals and stakeholders.

Launches South Asian Forum for Peace  

Jammu, 23^rd November 2016 -  The Art of Living, founded by the humanitarian and spiritual leader, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, brought together multiple stakeholders including  ex-militants, families of victims of militancy, youth leaders, women,  entrepreneurs, parents bodies, select Kashmiri NGOs, Sufi leaders, academicians, media, persons in art and culture, representatives of the Sikh community and dissenters including those who resorted to stone pelting to deliberate and have a dialogue on the situation in Kashmir as part of the 'Kashmir Back to Paradise' Conference. It is for the first time in recent months that such a diverse and large representation of stakeholders from Jammu and Kashmir came together for a dialogue on peaceful and prosperous Kashmir.

"Many of you have traveled 12 and 15 hours to get here because you are deeply pained by what has happened in the recent months," said Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, addressing this august gathering of Kashmiri stakeholders. "I have not come here with a ready-made solution. We will all have to come together, sit together and bring out a solution. Solutions cannot be found in the streets, not with stones and guns."  

Some of the intellectuals from the valley included Mr. My Ting, renowned Kashmiri  historian, Mr. Nizam Ud Din Bhat, experienced Kashmiri journalist,Lt Gen Subrata Saha, Deputy Chief of Army Staff, second in command, Prof. Nisar Ali, economist of international repute,and former advisor to the World Bank and IMF, Mr.Ashok Aima, vice chancellor, Central University of Jammu among others.

 

Many delegations from Kashmir who met Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in the recent months, like Dr. Ghulam Rasool Hami, head of the J & K based Karwan-I-Islami, Muzaffar Wani, father of slain militant Burhan Wani, had requested Gurudev to intervene in Kashmir, given the immense goodwill, trust and confidence he enjoys among people across the political and social spectrum in Kashmir.

This is an effort on the part of The Art of Living to rally diverse stakeholders in an effort to restore peace in the valley. The conference provided a platform for a more broad-based approach where a cross-section of Kashmiri leadership voiced their opinion and support for  the need for peace in the valley.  By getting peoples voices heard, through working towards dispute redressal and opening channels of communication between different factions are various other methods being utilised in this process.

"Kashmir has been a bastion of the intellectuals, artists, spiritual leaders, Sufis, literary greats, Rishis and Munis. But unfortunately today, we are helplessly watching schools being burnt, schools and buses are being burnt, shops being gutted. There are many sane voices which are unheard. The common man is caught between harthaal and curfews. So there is a dire need for a platform where common people can express their opinions, ideas. So I thought we should come together and form a platform, South Asian Forum for Peace."-  Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

As the way forward, the South Asian Forum for Peace was launched. The Forum would span eight South Asian countries to bring them together, to co-operate and work in areas such as entrepreneurship, skill development, cultural exchange, educational partnerships and women empowerment initiatives among others.

This is not the first time that Gurudev has been involved in resolving geo-political conflicts. Gurudev was successful by using his good offices in bringing a five decade old civil war in Colombia to an end. For this, Gurudev was awarded the highest Colombian civilian award. His role in promoting the Gandhian principles of non-violence paid off. In 2015, Gurudev also visited Iraq to garner international support for the Yazidi community which unfortunately is nearing cultural and political annihilation due to the sustained ISIS attacks on its members. Closer home, in 2005, Gurudev, for the first time, hosted a landmark conference that saw the coming together of migrant Kashmiri Pandit community. Since then, Gurudev has invited various leaders to Bengaluru Ashram for dialogue in times of political and religious tensions and has also visited the valley a few times.

1960 களில் அமெரிக்கா வந்த முதல் தலைமுறையைச் சார்ந்தவர் இவர். அமெரிக்காவில் ஆராய்ச்சி செய்து முனைவர் பட்டம் பெற்று, மேரிலாந்தில் கல்லூரிப் பேராசிரியராக இருந்து மிகப்பெரிய பொறுப்பில் இருந்தவர். தமிழக முதல்வர் எம்.ஜி.ஆர்., சிவாஜி என்று பலருடன் மிக நெருக்கமாகப் பழகியவர். எம்.ஜி.ஆர் அமெரிக்காவிற்குச் சிகிச்சைக்காக வந்தபோது அவருக்கு அனைத்து உதவிகளையும் உடனிருந்து செய்தவர். எம்.ஜி.ஆர். இவர் வீட்டிற்கு வந்து தங்கி அமெரிக்கா, கனடா போன்ற நாடுகளைத் தமிழக அதிகாரிகளுடன் சுற்றிப்பார்த்துள்ளார். மேரிலாந்தில் உள்ள தன் வீட்டிற்கு தமிழ்நாடு என்று பெயர் வைத்துள்ளார். இந்தியாவில் ஐந்து நட்சத்திர விடுதிகளை வைத்துள்ள முதல் தமிழர் என்று சொல்லலாம். லீ மெரிடியன் விடுதி சென்னையிலும் , கோயம்புத்தூரிலும் , தாரணி சர்க்கரை ஆலை, தாரணி ஷுகர்ஸ் டிஸ்டிலரி நிறுவனங்கள் , பல்வேறு கல்லூரிகள், பள்ளிகள் என்று பரந்து விரிந்துள்ள இவரது தொழில்கள் வியப்பூட்டுகிறது. முதல் தலைமுறை பட்டதாரியான இவர் சாதித்துள்ள இந்தத் தொழில் உயரம் , கடந்துவந்த பாதை என்று அனைத்தையும் பதிவு செய்துள்ள நூல் "இதய ஒலி" ஒவ்வொருவரும் படிக்க வேண்டிய நூல். அடுத்த தலைமுறை தொழில்முனைவோருக்கு ஊக்கமளிக்கவல்லது. 

நாற்பது ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு இவர் முன்னின்று உருவாக்கிய வாசிங்டன் தமிழ்ச்சங்கத்தில் அந்த அமைப்பின் இந்நாள் தலைவர் பரிவிளாகம் ச. பார்த்தசாரதி அவரது சமூகப் பங்களிப்புக்காக தமிழ்ச்சங்கத்தின் சார்பில் பொன்னாடை போர்த்தி, விருது வழங்கிச் சிறப்பித்தார். முனைவர்.பழனி.ஜி.பெரியசாமி அவர்கள் தந்து அமெரிக்க இல்லத்திற்கு " தமிழ்நாடு" என்று பெயர் வைத்துள்ளார். அவரிடம் பேசியபோது, தன் பத்தாண்டு கால முக்கிய காலத்தை தமிழ் அமைப்புகளை உருவாக்க உழைத்ததாகக் குறிப்பிடுகிறார். இவர் தமிழ்நாடு அறக்கட்டளைக்காக அரசிடமிருந்து இடம் வாங்கி அதை எம்.ஜி.ஆரை வைத்து அடிக்கல் நாட்டியத்தை நினைவுகூர்கிறார். தொழிலில் பல சாதனைகளைச் செய்திருந்தாலும், தமிழ் உணர்வுடன் இருப்பதும் , தமிழ் வளர்ச்சி குறித்து சிந்திப்பதும் , பழக எளிமையாக இருப்பதும், நம் இளைஞர்கள் தெரிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டியது அவசியம். 

இவர் தமிழ்நாடு அறக்கட்டளையில் தலைமைப்பொறுப்பில் இருந்தபோது டாக்டர் எம்.எஸ்.உதயமூர்த்தி துணைத்தலைவராக இருந்ததும், அமெரிக்கா வந்து சமூக அக்கறையுடனும், தமிழ்நாட்டில் வளர்ச்சி குறித்து சிந்தித்தவர்கள் அனைவரும் தமிழ் அமைப்புகள் வழியே ஒருங்கிணைத்ததையும் நினைவு கூர்ந்தார். மேலும் 40 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு தமிழ்ச்சங்கம் பயன்படுத்திய சில கடிதங்களை இந்நாள் தலைவருக்கு வழங்கினார்.

பிரதமர் தனது  உரையில், இந்த மாபெரும் நடவடிக்கையால் மக்கள் தற்காலிகமாக சில இன்னல்களுக்கு ஆளாக நேரிடும் என்றார். உண்மைதான், கிரெடிட் கார்டு, ஆன்லைன் பணப்பரிமாற்ற வழிமுறைகள் போன்றவற்றைப் பயன்படுத்தாத நடுத்தர,அடித்தட்டு மக்களுக்கு அடுத்த ஓரிரு வாரங்களுக்கு கடும் சிரமங்கள் ஏற்படும். கோடிக்கணக்கான மக்களின் அன்றாட வாழ்க்கையை பாதிக்கும் இதுபோன்ற முடிவுகளை எடுக்கும்போது இம்முடிவுகளைச் செயல்படுத்தும் பொறுப்பில் உள்ள வங்கிகள், தபால் நிலையங்கள் போன்றவைகள் செயல்படும் விதத்திலும் மத்திய அரசு கூடுதல் கவனம் செலுத்தவேண்டும். கூட்ட நெரிசலைத் தவிர்க்க  வங்கிகள், தபால் நிலையங்கள் எவ்வளவு நேரம் கூடுதலாக வேலை செய்யப்போகிறது என்பது முக்கியம். ஒப்புக்கு ஓரிரு மணி நேரங்கள் கூடுதலாக வேலை செய்தால் கண்டிப்பாக கூட்டத்தை சமாளிக்க முடியாது. குறைந்தபட்சம் அடுத்த ஒருவாரத்திற்காவது காலை 6 மணி முதல் இரவு 10 மணிவரை வங்கிகள் செயல்படவேண்டும்.(சனி,ஞாயிறன்று வங்கிகள் செயல்படும் என்பது வரவேற்புக்குரியது)

 

அதாவது, மக்கள் தாங்கள் செய்யும் வேலை அல்லது தொழிலுக்கு பாதிப்பு ஏற்படாத வண்ணம் அதிகாலையிலோ அல்லது இரவு நேரத்திலோ ரூ.500, ரூ.1000 நோட்டுக்களை மாற்றிக்கொள்ளும் வசதி செய்துதரப்படவேண்டும். பலகோடி பதுக்கி வைத்திருக்கும் பண முதலைகளை, கள்ளநோட்டுகளை புழக்கத்தில் விடும் சமூகவிரோதிகளை குறிவைத்து எடுக்கப்படும் இம்முடிவால் வீட்டில் குறைந்தபட்ச பணம் வைத்திருக்கும் அடித்தட்டு,நடுத்தட்டு மக்கள் பாதிக்கப்படக்கூடாது என்பதே சட்ட பஞ்சாயத்து இயக்கத்தின் நிலைப்பாடு.

 

இலஞ்ச-ஊழலை ஒழிக்க வேண்டுமெனில் மிகப்பெரும்பாலான பணப்பரிமாற்றங்கள் வங்கிகள் மூலம் நடக்கவேண்டும் என்று விவாதிக்கப்பட்டு வரும் சூழலில்  ரூ.2000 நோட்டை அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்படுவது முரணாக உள்ளது. இலஞ்ச-ஊழலில் ஈடுபடுபவர்கள் பணத்தைப் பதுக்குவதற்கு இது எளிய வழியை ஏற்படுத்திக்கொடுக்கும். 1000ரூபாய் நோட்டே இல்லை எனும் சூழல் உருவாகியுள்ள நிலையில் புதிதாக 2000ரூபாய் நோட்டு அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்படுவது தேவையில்லாதது, எதிர்விளைவை உருவாக்கக் கூடியது. ஆகவே, ரூ.2000 நோட்டு அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்படுவதை மறுபரிசீலனை செய்யவேண்டும்.

Statement from Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Founder of The Art of Living on demonetizing of 500 and 1000 rupee notes.

"I request everyone not to panic. The demonetising of high value currency is good for the country. It will curb corruption, black money and terrorism.

"There is no need to worry. No one will lose their hard-earned money since the government has made provisions for exchanging the 500 and 1000 notes easily with other legal notes.

"This move from the government will only impact those who have hoarded money illegally. The government is taking all efforts to see that the common man is not inconvenienced. In fact, this decision has brought a sigh of relief for all of us who have been fighting corruption all these years.

"I congratulate the PM for taking this bold move and ushering in Artha Kranti."

Need for people's democracy in local bodies – One day protest fast

Venue: Near Chepauk Government Guest House, Chepauk, Chennai

Date : 06/11/2016 Sunday

Time: 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM

As we are well aware, the local body elections in Tamil Nadu have been postponed unexpectedly, which has resulted in the appointment of special officers to look after the governance of Panchayats and urban local bodies. This unfortunate occurrence has undermined the rights of people and the power vested by our constitution in the hands of people. In the present state of affairs, there is no clarity on the conduct of Grama Sabha as a people's forum to address the issues in every panchayat and there is a larger question of participation of people in the governance process. 

 

We are holding a one-day protest fast as a way to express our sadness and concerns with the current turn of events that threaten to weaken the progress made in strengthening local bodies and our democracy.

Social Activists, former panchayat representatives, women panchayat representatives and youth would be participating in this protest fast.

We seek the support and participation of the Press, which plays an important role in strengthening our democracy. We request you to kindly join us on this day for the fast.
